ABOUT US

Friends of STARTTS was established in 1992 as a non-profit organization to support STARTTS activities. We assist STARTTS by raising funds for specific services and educating the wider community about our collective responsibility to assist torture and trauma survivors to build new lives.

ABOUT STARTTS

Opened in 1988, the NSW Service for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Torture and Trauma Survivors (STARTTS) is NSW’s leading organisation for the treatment and rehabilitation of torture and trauma survivors.

STARTTS helps refugees heal and build new lives.

STARTTS also works with other organisations and individuals to help them work more effectively with refugees.

STARTTS’ clients

Our clients are people living in NSW who are refugees, asylum seekers or people from refugee-like situations. They have survived torture and other traumatic experiences because of war or other types of organised violence.

Each year STARTTS provide direct services to approximately 4,000 individuals and families to help them overcome the effects of torture and trauma and the difficulties associated with settling in a new country. In addition, we work with refugee communities so that they are better able to support each other and establish themselves in a new environment.

Friends of STARTTS

FOS supports the work that STARTTS does. Members of FOS raise funds for STARTTS work, teach English to refugees, help out at camps for children and young people, raise awareness about refugee issues and organise events to celebrate refugees’ lives.

Want to help refugees?

We welcome you to join Friends of STARTTS (FOS) to help us assist and empower torture and trauma survivors.
Three or four minutes are not enough to describe how much STARTTS has helped me and how much this organisation means to me, my family and all the people with similar experiences, regardless of their nation, religion or race.
